February 23-28, 2025
Get away from the cold this February and join us for an adventure yoga retreat on the beautiful beaches of Oaxaca, Mexico!
Our home away from home will be Casa de Olas, a charming boutique hotel located steps from the beach in the vibrant surfing town of Puerto Escondido. Your days will begin with an energetic vinyasa flow yoga practice, followed by a delicious hearty brunch to fuel your body for a day of adventure. The days are filled with opportunities to explore amazing beaches, surf, or visit historic towns and markets nearby. If you’re seeking some quiet time, you can soak up the sun by the stunning cascade pool amongst the palm trees or enjoy a relaxing therapeutic massage. As the sun sets, a mellow restorative yoga practice will support you with meditation and mantra, followed by a family style dinner prepared by talented local chefs schooled in the old charms of Oaxacan cuisine. All classes and excursions are completely optional so you can curate your ideal vacation experience each day. Get your passport ready for a yoga adventure in Mexico!
Casa De Olas Boutique Hotel & Retreat Center
Situated on a gently sloping hill by the sea, Casa de Olas Boutique Hotel is an elegant and playful destination accommodation located in the world famous surfing town of Puerto Escondido, in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Hidden in the heart of La Punta Zicatela, a marvelously mellow and safe beach-side neighborhood, "The House of Waves" is an artfully attired sanctuary for cultured and adventurous world-travelers in search of an engaging Mexican hideaway. Nestled within the security of rustic stone walls, delightfully cozy common areas and lush green terrazas blend subtly to produce an intimate vibe where all guests are welcomed home as family.
Rooted in health and wellness, Casa de Olas has two rooftop shalas with all the equipment for yoga and fitness, providing breezy, tranquil spaces for yoga classes offered twice daily by Christine and Mary. The hotel can provide a wonderful on-site massage therapist or you can reserve a time for Thai Massage with Mary.
When you're not practicing yoga or adventuring, you can cool off in the two-tiered pool featuring a cascade waterfall or enjoy snacks and tropical drinks at the poolside bar. Winding your way up to the 3rd floor terraza, you might savor some restorative downtime in the Hamaca and Library Lounges. Finally there is the Rooftop Palapa Bar, which boasts a panoramic vista of La Punta Zicatela beneath the shade of lush mango trees and palm fronds. With a stunning view of the Sierra Madre Del Sur mountains and the pacific Mexican coast as a backdrop, you can savor the flavors of locally crafted spirits and mocktails, revel to the sounds of live acoustic musical performances, and commune with friends, both old and new.
The retreat center has an English-speaking concierge to help organize all of our adventure excursions in the region, including night-swimming in a bioluminescent lagoon, morning or sunset boat rides for dolphin and whale watching, Oaxacan cooking classes, surf, tennis, or Latin dance lessons, and day trips to nearby beach towns, markets, and more!
Casa de Olas is only 20 minutes from Puerto Escondido Airport (PXM) and 1.5 hours from Huatulco International Airport (HUX). The neighborhood has a no-noise ordinance after 11 pm so you can sleep well and wake up refreshed and rejuvenated.

Travel
Try to arrive at Casa de Olas by the afternoon on 2/23 so you can enjoy a welcome snack and beverage upon arrival, get settled into your accommodations, and join for our first dinner as a group. Unwind from your day of travel with a gentle yoga session and intention setting ceremony on our first night together.
You are responsible for booking and purchasing your own airfare. The closest/easiest airport is Puerto Escondido ("PXM"), just 20 minutes away from the retreat center with one stop in Mexico City ("MEX"). You can also fly into Huatulco International Airport ("HUX"), which is about 1.5 hours away by car. There are very reasonable flight options from the U.S. to Mexico City. If you have time in your schedule, Mexico City is a must-visit for a day or two on your way there and/or on your way home. Sometimes booking round-trip flights to MEX and then booking separate flights from MEX to PXM or HUX can be a better deal, so explore all your options before purchasing. We recommend booking air travel ASAP for the best prices.
Transport between the airport and retreat center will be arranged as we get your flight details. The cost will be about $15 per person depending on whether you arrive in a group or individually. All arrivals before and after the retreat dates are organized on your own.

Mary carries a License in Massage Therapy. In 2005, she became an accredited Thai Yoga Massage Therapist. “Lazy Man’s Yoga” is a form of therapeutic massage that combines gentle stretching, acupressure, and breath work in one beautiful and meditative experience. In 2019, she spent two months in Chiang Mai, Thailand, to study with living masters of this healing art form.
Mary has lead retreats near home and abroad since 2016. It is one of her favorite ways to adventure around the world. She is very excited to share this Mexican adventure retreat with you.
Christine Janak, RYT-200
Christine Janak is a yoga and meditation instructor based in Urbana, IL, practicing yoga since 2009. She completed her RYT-200 yoga teacher training at Amara Yoga & Arts in 2014 and recently completed continuing education in MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction). She has offered group classes and private lessons for over 10 years and loves to lead flowing vinyasa-style classes that help students drop into the present moment through breath and body awareness. She encourages everyone to experiment and make the practice their own, honoring what their body needs in each moment and exploring what feels good without restriction.
Christine is also a dancer and circus-style performance artist and teacher, specializing in hoop dance, silk fan veils, and fire dancing/fire eating. She enjoys performing at festivals, private events, and on stage with the band Sun Stereo throughout the Midwest and beyond.
This will be Christine's first retreat offering and she can't wait to go on this yoga adventure with you!
